Quartz is a very durable and resilient material but that doesn’t mean it is indestructible. Quartz is one of the most popular materials nowadays because it is one of the easiest materials to maintain. The cleaning is easy and it doesn’t need sealing. It is resistant to staining and removing spills is effortless. But even with this being said, you can always use a bit of extra caution to prolonge the longevity and to preserve he beauty of your quartz stone surfaces.
1. Use cutting boards
Quartz is a manufactured material, made as a combination of 93% natural quartz and 7% resins. Quartz is naturally a very hard material that is not easy to get scratched. However, that doesn’t mean that it can’t get scratched, so make sure to use a cutting board. Using it regularly you will not only prevent the scratching, but it is also a lot more hygienic for food preparation.
2. Use mats
Quartz has solid heat resistance, but using mats and trivets is advised when cooking. Leaving hot kitchenware directly on your surfaces can lead to discolourations. To prevent that from happening, leave mats and trivets on visible and accessible spots in your kitchen, so you always have them handy when you need them.
3. Use soft materials
When it comes to cleaning, quartz is one of the easiest materials. The cleaning is handled with only soap and water. You will just need to make some soapsuds and wipe your surfaces with a cloth. It is advised to use soft cloths and sponges because abrasive surfaces can wear off the top layer.
4. Avoid using harsh chemicals
Chemicals that contain bleach or ammonia can lighten the colour or make discolourations. A lot of household cleaners contain either one or the other chemical and while they are fine for cleaning certain elements, they are not good for quartz. It is best to use simple soap or a specially designed cleaner for stones. Occasionally, you can also use the glass cleaner to deeply clean the surfaces.
5. Clean it regularly
When you clean your surfaces regularly, you will be removing all the spills and dirt that you even haven’t noticed. You will also make your surfaces more hygienic and suitable for food preparation. You will also restore the shine of your surfaces that has been dull due to constant using.
Following these simple tricks, you will prolong the longevity of your quartz surfaces and maintain their beauty for longer. Once these steps become a habit, they will require no time, but you will benefit from them largely.
